![]() Woodcarvers - Jim and his son Simon create carvings that delight. Specialising in Grinling Gibbons style wooden sculptures of natural objects and heraldic imagery for picture frames, mirrors, seats, benches and rolls of honour, they are available for commissions. Jim and Simon also restore antique furniture. Jim's father Tom, who died in 1991, was an accomplised wood worker who made and restored furniture and carved decorative walking sticks. Jim's brother is a gifted cabinet maker, at present working in Eire. Jim began woodcarving when he was suffering from a spinal injury. With a sharpened screwdriver and a stanley knife he created his very first piece, a plaque with ivy leaves, mushrooms, snails and oak leaves (above). Very proud of his first piece - he was encouraged and given his first large commission by The Earl and Countess of Malmesbury and produced the magnificent mirror frame which now hangs at Greywell Hill (below). Simon is a talented cabinet-maker with several years experience in restoring antique furniture - he is the third generation to inherit the family skills - a natural craftsmanship he has shown since an early age. Before commissioning a piece of work, Jim and Smon would be delighted to show you examples of what they have done and discuss your personal requirements in full detail. We hope that you enjoy our website (when it's finished!). |
